Neurofeedback Services

Neurofeedback is an innovative neuro technology which harnesses the brain’s neuroplasticity – its ability to change itself –to bring about improvement in a variety of symptoms which can interfere with life satisfaction. This non-medicine approach trains your brain to function optimally, thus improving attention, mood, learning ability and more.

What Is Neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback literally means “brain” and “input,” where the brain is monitored, and input is given instantly. Neurofeedback specifically monitors brainwaves.

What Are Brainwaves? How Do They Affect Me?

Your brain produces four primary types of brain waves: Beta, Alpha, Theta and Delta.

Beta Brainwaves

Are associated with the mental state most people are in during the day and most of their waking lives. When you are alert and focused, you are producing Beta brainwaves.

Alpha Brainwaves

Are associated with being awake but relaxed and not processing much information. When you first get up and right before you fall asleep, you are generating Alpha waves, as well as when you close your eyes to rest.

Theta Brainwaves

Are associated with light sleep or extreme relaxation. When your subconscious takes over you start producing Theta brainwaves.

Delta Brainwaves

Are associated with deep, dreamless sleep and regeneration. Delta brainwaves occur when you are asleep and are responsible for healing the body.

What is Neurofeedback Training?

Neurofeedback training (NFBT) is an innovative neuro technology that simultaneously measures, monitors, and records your brainwave frequency patterns. It lets you see your brainwave activity on the computer monitor. With that information you can learn how to change your brain wave patterns. The human brain is highly malleable, NFBT can make positive and concrete changes in the structure and function of the brain—neuroplasticity. It creates new brain cells to directly improve memory, learning, motor tasks, cognitive flexibility, and motivation—neurogenesis.

These two concepts of neuroplasticity and neurogenesis are the core principles to the PranaMind NFBT approach. This process of stimulating and learning to change your brainwave activity improves brain function. Our goal is to help you create neurophysiological changes to meet your goals, like recover from trauma, feel calmer, sleep well, reduce pain, and think more sharply.

How Does Neurofeedback Training Help?

NFBT can be used to address the following mental health challenges:

  • Concussion & Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome
  • Depression
  • Anxiety & Stress
  • Chronic Pain
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
  • Migraine Headaches

How Does Neurofeedback Training Work?

Neurofeedback is a process of training brainwaves into healthy patterns using neuro technology. Sensors are attached to the scalp to record your brain wave patterns, there is no pain because there no electric voltage or current being applied to your brain—it is totally non-invasive. Reading the sensors, the computer processes your brain waves. Every half-second your brain wave activity is recorded and compared to targets set for change. You immediately receive auditory feedback (music or tones) or visual feedback (movies, bar graphs, video games) based on your brainwaves. You learn to adjust and control your brainwave’s activity and neural connections. When your brain meets the targeted goal, you get a signal and a reward. If your brain fails to meet it, you do not. With repeated NFBT sessions, your brain gradually develops and strengthens neural networks and systems to self-regulate specific brain waves frequencies—anyone can learn do it.

PranaMind’s NFBT services include:

  • Neurofeedback assessment
  • Brain Mapping
  • Neurofeedback training and therapy
  • Self-regulation techniques
  • Peak sport performance skills training
  • Neuromuscular re-education for trauma brain injury and stroke

How long is a neurofeedback training session?

Each session usually lasts 30-45 minutes.

How many neurofeedback sessions are needed?

The number of sessions needed will depend on you. Much like going to the gym, you require a length of time to improve. 20 – 40 sessions are normal for many conditions to improve.

A certified PranaMind specialist provides direct one-to-one NFBT sessions, monitors the sessions, sets the protocol, interprets activity, and gets feedback from you, which is used to adjust future sessions toward even more effective outcomes.
